How to make a Corey Taylor’s mask
Corey Taylor, also know as slipknot number 8 is the vocalist for this band and the band Stone Sour. His career doesn’t just involve engagement in this two band but also making guest appearances for many famous bands like Apocalyptica, Soulfly etc. However, being a Slipknot member is what made him popular the most, and his fans would agree that his vocal abilities and his mask are freaking awesome!
Corey’s first mask was basically a white crash test dummy with brown and blonde dreads made from his own hair. It used to be made of leather but now he switched to a latex mask, and since he changed his hairstyle the dreads are fake now. He says that his mask represents everything bad in the world, the hate, the pain, all the things that inspires him to make the songs.
Corey’s mask is one of the most easier ones to make at home. If you can find an old white crash test dummy that would be perfect because you will not need to modify it too much. If not, don’t worry, It can be made with some duct tape, paints and a little bit of creativity.
-First, find a picture of Corey’s mask for reference. Then get something in size of your head. You can use a mannequin head or a balloon. You can even use your own head but then you will have to ask somebody to help you with it. Put a woman stocking on the head model and then start putting duct tape on it. You can also use masking tape, but duct tape is better because it’s thinner and the mask will look more realistic. While you’re applying the tape, don’t press it too hard because the contours of the face should not be made. Shape it only a little bit around the nose and chin for better fitting.
-Mark the holes for the eyes, nose and mouth, make a vertical slit in the back of the mask, remove it from the head model and cut out the holes. Then use spray paint to color the mask. For the old mask use grey and green paint and for a recent mask use white, pale yellow and grey paint. The paint job is a little bit tricky so carefully study the picture to see where and how much of each color you should apply.
- Leave the mask to dry overnight and after that your mask is finished. If you wish, you can also add some straps or binds on the slit so the mask can be fixed when put on.
