How to make Craig Jones slipknot mask

Craig Jones is the sampler/keyboardist in the band Slipknot. He is a very individualistic person and is often said to be the darkest member of the band. Although the rest of the members did show up in public unmasked, Craig did everything he could to remain anonymous. He never gave interviews, he left the shows early to prevent being seen without a mask, and up until recently the general public had no idea what he looks like. A really creepy fellow indeed! And his mask is even creepier. His first mask was a driving helmet with spikes attached but the latest version of it is a light leather version with nine inch nails attached. His mask represents pain. The mask has really small holes for the eyes and even smaller slits for the nose while across the mouth a long silver zip is placed.

If you ever thought how it would be really cool to try to make this mask at home but you never  thought that there is the possibility that it may actually work, I have good news. This article will explain how to make a good copy of the Craig’s mask, so follow the instructions step by step and you’ll be surprised how easy it was.

To make this mask you will need- tin( aluminium) foil, black and grey(or silver) duct tape, zipper, barbecue sticks and scissors.

Step one- Mould the aluminium foil so it fit your head. You can do it on your own head or on a model. After that gently cover the foil with black duct tape. Keep applying the tape until you completely cover the foil.

Step two- Cut out the holes for the eyes and apply two additional strips of tape to the top an bottom of the each eye hole. This way the shape of the eye holes will look more like a square and not like a circle. Also make a slit in the back of the mask so you can put it on without tearing it.

Step three- Measure the zipper and cut out a hole in which you will fit it. Fix the zipper from the inside by putting duct tape, or even better- use a superglue.

Step four- Now it’s time to make the spikes. Add barbecue sticks on the mask and glue them of fix them from the inside. When you have done that wrap each one of them in grey or silver duct tape so they look like the real metal spikes.

How to make a Mick Thompson’s mask

Mick Thompson, the lead guitarist of Slipknot, wears a really angry and evil looking metallic ghost-like mask. His first mask was, actually, a Jason like hockey mask, but he soon changed it to a metallic looking leather mask that had slits on the mouth. The evilness that the mask expresses increased thought the years and mask was first made out of leather, then latex and his most recent one is really made out of metal. If you’d like to add the mask of the slipknot member number 7 to your collection, or just want to dress yourself  that way for Halloween this mask can be made at home. You can also buy a licensed one if you prefer that. For the ones that like the idea of homemade masks, here are some useful tips on how to make it.

You will need the following:

-a drawing of the mask

- a piece of black or metallic leather

- a needle and a thread( staple is optional)

- copper wire ( shortened barbecue stick is optional)

1. Find a really good picture of the mask.  Study it carefully and draw it on the piece of paper. Then, take a piece of black or metallic leather and cut it as seen on your drawing. Make sure to leave some extra leather so you can work with it later on to form angry creases on the forehead.

2. Saw or staple the pieces together so you have the basic shape with the cut outs for the eyes and a grill looking mouth opening. Measure the mask by placing it against your face. Mark where your nostrils are and then make one horizontal slit. Place a piece of copper wire or a shorter piece of the barbecue wooden stick vertically from the slit. The slit for the nostrils and the wire should make a reversed letter T shape.  The wire should go from the tip of your nose to the mid brow ending. That way your nose will have that angular look when your put on the mask.

3.Staple some leather in the forehead area and between the eyes to make those angry creases. If you are good in sewing you can also to this with a needle and thread.

4. Make a square chin pattern from the wire, stretch the leather over it and fix it to the wire with thread or a staple. This way the bottom part (which is longer than your face) will have that authentic look and it will not flap around.

5. Poke a hole on each side and attach straps. Now you can put it on your face, because it’s finished.
