How to make Jim Root’s slipknot mask

Jim Root, or also known as the” number four “ is one of the guitarists in the Slipknot band and also the lead guitarist of the other band called Stone Sour. He joined Slipknot as a replacement for he previous guitarist Josh Brainard. For that reason the first wore Josh’s mask. It was a black, bondage mask that covered his whole head, and thought the holes the pulled parts of his purple hair. This mask was to uncomfortable for him and since he couldn’t concentrate on playing while he wore it, he decided to put on a different, more comfortable, one. The new mask is a jester-style, over the face mask, for which he says it represents him the best way. The mask sustained some changes during the time, but it remained jester- styled with red scars around the eyes and a zipper on the black painted lips.

To make a really good looking Jim’s mask at home you will need these items:

-mannequin head as a model( optional)

-tights

-some newspapers

-plaster and paint

- shaping tool (a knife or a chisel )

-zipper and superglue(optional)

If you don’t have a mannequin head for a model you can do it on your head but ask a friend to help you because you wont be able to do it alone. Also, if your are not handy with moulding and shaping just buy a regular white mask, skip the first step and go straight to painting.

-Put tights on a mannequin’s head. Rip newspapers in strips, mix them with the plaster and apply on the face ,over the tights. Shape the eyeholes and the mouth as precisely as you can. While the plaster is still fresh poke the holes for the straps so your can attach it to your face when it’s done. Wait for the plaster to dry long enough and then remove it from the head along with the tights by cutting a slit in the back of the tights. If you are using a mannequin head this is not necesary. Use the shaping tool to gently carve in the small details while the plaster is not completely dried. Leave the mask over the night to dry completely.

-When the mask is dry you can proceed to painting. Paint the red shapes around the eyes, paint the zipper on the lips or super glue a smaller regular zipper. Then carefully paint the lips around the zipper using black paint.

-Leave the paint to dry and then attach elastic band or straps  through the holes you made.

How to make Craig Jones slipknot mask

Craig Jones is the sampler/keyboardist in the band Slipknot. He is a very individualistic person and is often said to be the darkest member of the band. Although the rest of the members did show up in public unmasked, Craig did everything he could to remain anonymous. He never gave interviews, he left the shows early to prevent being seen without a mask, and up until recently the general public had no idea what he looks like. A really creepy fellow indeed! And his mask is even creepier. His first mask was a driving helmet with spikes attached but the latest version of it is a light leather version with nine inch nails attached. His mask represents pain. The mask has really small holes for the eyes and even smaller slits for the nose while across the mouth a long silver zip is placed.

If you ever thought how it would be really cool to try to make this mask at home but you never  thought that there is the possibility that it may actually work, I have good news. This article will explain how to make a good copy of the Craig’s mask, so follow the instructions step by step and you’ll be surprised how easy it was.

To make this mask you will need- tin( aluminium) foil, black and grey(or silver) duct tape, zipper, barbecue sticks and scissors.

Step one- Mould the aluminium foil so it fit your head. You can do it on your own head or on a model. After that gently cover the foil with black duct tape. Keep applying the tape until you completely cover the foil.

Step two- Cut out the holes for the eyes and apply two additional strips of tape to the top an bottom of the each eye hole. This way the shape of the eye holes will look more like a square and not like a circle. Also make a slit in the back of the mask so you can put it on without tearing it.

Step three- Measure the zipper and cut out a hole in which you will fit it. Fix the zipper from the inside by putting duct tape, or even better- use a superglue.

Step four- Now it’s time to make the spikes. Add barbecue sticks on the mask and glue them of fix them from the inside. When you have done that wrap each one of them in grey or silver duct tape so they look like the real metal spikes.

Chris Fehn’s mask and how to make it

Chris Fehn is a percussionist for the well known band Slipknot. Slipknot fans think his mask is one of the coolest ones, and people like to dress up and mask like him for Halloween. So what is so cool about his mask? Well, his mask is a black leather bondage mask with a zipper for mouth and a very long nose. The color of his masked changed, first it was white, than black, then red, and in the recent period he returned to the previous black leather style. The nose however, always stayed the same length- 7,5 inches ,to be precise, as well as the rest of the masks features. His mask arouse a broad discussion and a lot of guessing about the reasons why he chose the long nose and the SM look. The list of possible reasons is getting longer and longer even as you read this, thought Chris himself once declared that he is not sure why he picked that kind of a mask.

Well, with or without a good reason and explanation, you have to agree that the mask is really cool. Some people even think that it’s more funny than scary, and even some kids love it! This mask can be made at home if you want to put in a little effort, time and creativity. You can also buy it in store or order it over the internet but it can cost you a pretty penny, and when ordering over the internet have in mind that the size may not fit you completely and you’ll have to do additional fitting. This mask is pretty easy to make at home even if you are not really artistic and skillful. No painting is required, just some basic sewing skills.

-          Buy a plain, regular latex mask that covers the whole head.

-          Cut out the front part so your whole face shows.

-          Take a piece of leather( real or fake, doesn’t matter) and cut the part in the same size as the latex cutout. Also make the opening for the mouth and sew a zipper on.

-          Bind the latex back and the leather front with a thick thread or , for a genuine look, you can use leather straps.

-          For a bondage style look add 3 leather straps that will go from your ears and your forehead back. The straps should form a flipped letter T in the back of your head.

-          Wear your brand new mask and enjoy.
